Kickboxing comes in many forms you have semi-contact kickboxing, that is usually done on mats with a centre referee and 2 shadow judges and when a clear strike is scored the ref will order stop and in collaboration with the shadow judges will award the point, its very fast and technical and probably the biggest form of competitive martial arts there is ! Then there is light continuous kickboxing usually on mats or a ring the strikes are controlled all kicks above the waist ! Full contact kickboxing done in the ring similar format to boxing usually over 3 rds all kicks are above waist level. K1 Kickboxing where you have high and low kicks bouts take place in the ring you can use the knee but no elbows.
At Leeds Cage we tend to lean towards the K1 style but we draw on advantageous aspects of the other styles, a class involves lots of padwork with a partner in 2-3minute rounds practicing the many different techniques to develop high levels of skill and evasion with constant interaction from the pad partner, you will learn to move and strike with either limb from many angles. We also work out on bags and speedballs and have many supplementary drills, all in all an excellent workout !
